However, the cost of investing\u00a0<span id=\"ecf585cb-0cc7-4248-ac04-c5c712c79357\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"ecf585cb-0cc7-4248-ac04-c5c712c79357\">and maintaining<\/span> that hardware for the task of storing backups is enormous. Therefore, businesses are gradually shifting through cloud storage services as an optimal solution, while ensuring data availability (with\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">offsite backups), <\/strong>while saving investment costs for traditional hardware infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"475\">AWS has also launched backup solutions\u00a0<a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/products\/storage\/\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/products\/storage\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">across their AWS Storage<\/a> services including <a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/s3\/\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/s3\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\"><span id=\"1df90eee-1332-418b-a832-8955e010ea7f\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"1df90eee-1332-418b-a832-8955e010ea7f\">Amazon S3 <\/span><\/a>and <a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/storagegateway\/\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/storagegateway\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\"><span id=\"1df90eee-1332-418b-a832-8955e010ea7f\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"1df90eee-1332-418b-a832-8955e010ea7f\">AWS Storage Gateway<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>products that integrate with Veeam&#8217;s backup solution.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"M\u00f4-h\u00ecnh-chia-s\u1ebb-tr\u00e1ch-nhi\u1ec7m-\u2013-Shared-Responsibility-Model\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"645\">AWS Shared Responsibility Model<\/h2>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"704\">When using public cloud storage, it is important to be aware of the limitations of compliance and security responsibilities. AWS specifically introduced <strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">AWS Shared Responsibility Model.<\/strong>\u00a0You can read more here:\u00a0<a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/compliance\/shared-responsibility-model\/\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/compliance\/shared-responsibility-model\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Shared Responsibility Model \u2013 Amazon Web Services (AWS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1029\">This shared model can help ease the operational burden on customers as AWS will operate, manage, and control components from server operating systems and virtualization layers to the physical security of facilities operating the service. Customers can leverage Veeam&#8217;s strengths to fulfill their cloud data protection management responsibilities. Veeam will help customers minimize worries\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">about data protection (backup, disaster recovery) <\/strong>and spend more time running their business.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"S\u01a1-l\u01b0\u1ee3c-v\u1ec1-Veeam-Backup-&amp;-Replication-(VBR)\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"1664\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication<span id=\"bb6a80ec-d8ec-4d5a-afc2-cd2f9b0e2130\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"bb6a80ec-d8ec-4d5a-afc2-cd2f9b0e2130\">(V<\/span>BR)<\/h2>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1709\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication (VBR)\u00a0<\/strong>provides powerful protection for all types of data. VBR allows customers to automatically tiering backups into Amazon S3 to help reduce the dependence and costs associated with a more expensive on-premises backup storage.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1985\">In February 2020, Veeam released Veeam Backup &amp; Replication version 10, adding functionality to the\u00a0<a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/helpcenter.veeam.com\/docs\/backup\/vsphere\/capacity_tier.html?ver=100\" href=\"https:\/\/helpcenter.veeam.com\/docs\/backup\/vsphere\/capacity_tier.html?ver=100\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">capacity tier.<\/a> The <strong>capacity\u00a0tier<\/strong>\u00a0is an additional storage level that can be added to the repository available to scale for backups.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2223\">In older versions such as 9.5 Update 4, VBR already has the ability to implement a<a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/10-goi-y-trien-khai-aws-disaster-recovery\/\" href=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/10-goi-y-trien-khai-aws-disaster-recovery\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\"> Disaster Recovery Strategy<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0a much more economical cost\u00a0<span id=\"a6e3a920-d099-43a1-b99e-cc7a9cad1660\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"a6e3a920-d099-43a1-b99e-cc7a9cad1660\">than\u00a0<\/span>a traditional DR solution.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2223\">Read more about the 10 tips for developing an AWS Disaster Recovery Plan at: <a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/10-goi-y-trien-khai-aws-disaster-recovery\/\" href=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/en\/10-goi-y-trien-khai-aws-disaster-recovery\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">https:\/\/vticloud.io\/10-goi-y-trien-khai-aws-disaster-recovery\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2223\">In the next section, VTI Cloud will discuss strategies to help you leverage Veeam Backup &amp; Replication to restore on-premises systems to the AWS\u00a0cloud as <strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Amazon EC2 instances\u00a0<\/strong>for DR purposes, and will better understand how to integrate Veeam Backup &amp; Replication with AWS Storage services.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"C\u00e1c-kh\u00e1i-ni\u1ec7m-c\u1ee7a-VBR\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"2898\">Concepts of VBR in data backup<\/h2>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2921\">Let&#8217;s take a look at some concepts related to Veeam Backup &amp; Replication<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"1.-Scale-out-backup-repository-(SOBR)\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"2997\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">1. Scale-out backup repository (SOBR)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3036\">SOBR means an expanded data warehouse, consisting of one or more repository configured as tiers. SOBR is used as a single target for backup and copy jobs.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3231\">SOBR consists of 02 tiers: Performance tier and Capacity tier.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3288\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Performance tier<\/strong> provides quick access to data and is stored at on-premises such as NAS or deduplication appliances.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3427\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Capacity tiers\u00a0<\/strong>are useful for long-term backups, where Amazon S3 is used as a repository.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1792\" src=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Scale-out-backup-repository.jpg\" alt=\"Scale-out backup repository\" width=\"770\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Scale-out-backup-repository.jpg 770w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Scale-out-backup-repository-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Scale-out-backup-repository-768x347.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"2.-Sao-ch\u00e9p-v\u00e0-Di-chuy\u1ec3n\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"3543\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">2. Copy and Move<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3570\">Customers can choose to configure the capacity tier to send Veeam backups to Amazon S3 in two ways.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3674\">Customers can back<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">\u00a0up directly to Amazon S3<\/em>\u00a0after the backup job is complete.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3777\">In addition, they can migrate backups from the performance tier to <em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Amazon S3<\/em>\u00a0after the backup chain has been sealed and exceeds the minimum operational restore window defined.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"3.-Chu\u1ed7i-sao-l\u01b0u-(Backup-chains)\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"4384\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">3. Backup chains<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A backup chain or backup chain is a method of a backup that includes an\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">early-stage full backup<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">next incremental<\/strong>\u00a0backups. Veeam considers this backup chain process &#8220;sealed&#8221; when a synthesis of the next full-back cycle is complete.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1793\" src=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/chuoi-sao-luu-backup-chains.png\" alt=\"chu\u1ed7i sao l\u01b0u backup chains\" width=\"853\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/chuoi-sao-luu-backup-chains.png 853w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/chuoi-sao-luu-backup-chains-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/chuoi-sao-luu-backup-chains-768x334.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4719\">The copy operation takes place in parallel with the migration operation. When the backup string stops working, Veeam validates whether the data blocks are in\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Amazon S3;<\/strong>\u00a0if so, Veeam will delete this block of data on the\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">performance tier, <\/strong>leaving only metadata (note information about that data block).<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"5010\">Since Veeam has stored the metadata of the data block in Amazon S3, in the case of a restore in which the data blocks are in Amazon S3, Veeam will restore the data from Amazon S3\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">seamlessly without\u00a0<\/strong>the intervention of the backup administrator.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Ph\u01b0\u01a1ng-\u00e1n-t\u1ed1t-nh\u1ea5t-khi-s\u1eed-d\u1ee5ng-Veeam-Backup-&amp;-Replication-v\u1edbi-c\u00e1c-l\u1edbp-l\u01b0u-tr\u1eef-(storage-class)-c\u1ee7a-Amazon-S3\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"5267\">Best backup options for Using Veeam Backup &amp; Replication with Amazon S3 storage classes<\/h2>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"5377\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication version 10 supports the ability to use the following Amazon S3 Class Storage\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">S3 Standard, Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access (Amazon S3 Standard-IA),<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Amazon S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access (Amazon S3 One Zone-IA).<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"5627\">Most customers choose to place their data in Amazon S3 Standard or Amazon S3 Standard-IA. These storage classes offer low latency, high through performance, durability designed for 99.999999999% (11 out of 9) across <a class=\"sc-dqBHgY hiPvaM\" title=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/xay-dung-kien-truc-high-availability-tren-aws-cho-doanh-nghiep\/\" href=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/xay-dung-kien-truc-high-availability-tren-aws-cho-doanh-nghiep\/\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">multiple Availability Zones,\u00a0<\/a>and low storage costs.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"5627\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1794\" src=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes.png\" alt=\"Amazon s3 storage classes\" width=\"2820\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes.png 2820w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes-1024x558.png 1024w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes-1536x837.png 1536w, https:\/\/vticloud.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Amazon-s3-storage-classes-2048x1116.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2820px) 100vw, 2820px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"5900\">Customers can also choose to use Amazon S3 One Zone-IA to store less frequently accessed data, but require quick access as needed. Unlike other Amazon S3 storage classes that store data for at least three Availability Zones, Amazon S3 One Zone-IA stores data only in a single AZ. This resulted in\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">20% lower costs than<\/strong>\u00a0Amazon S3 Standard-IA.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"6296\">Amazon S3 One Zone-IA is ideal for customers who want a lower cost option for data that is accessed in an insular way but does not require the availability and viability of Amazon S3 Standard or Amazon S3 Standard-IA. It is a good option to store the backups of the data from on-premises or the data can be recreated easily.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"6662\">Customers should consider access<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">\u00a0needs and data availability to choose the<\/strong>\u00a0appropriate Amazon S3 storage class when using Veeam Backup &amp; Replication.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Veeam-Capacity-Tier-kh\u00f4ng-h\u1ed7-tr\u1ee3-Amazon-S3-Glacier-v\u00e0-Amazon-S3-Deep-Glacier-Archive-trong-th\u1eddi-gian-n\u00e0y\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"6825\">Veeam Capacity Tier does not support Amazon S3 Glacier and Amazon S3 Deep Glacier Archive during this time<\/h3>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"6931\">If the use of these Amazon S3 storage classes is required, customers are encouraged to use AWS Storage Gateway&#8217;s Tape Gateway,\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">which is mentioned in the next section.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"7099\">Additionally, Veeam does not support Lifecycle policies in Amazon S3 to convert or expire objects in Amazon S3 buckets. Activating these policies can lead to backups and restore failures if the necessary data has expired.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"7353\">It is also important to ensure sufficient\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">WAN bandwidth<\/strong> is available between Veeam backup servers at on-premises and Amazon S3 (in Vietnam is international bandwidth). Meeting sufficient WAN bandwidth ensures that backup and restore work can be completed within the time period that is right for your organization.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"S\u1eed-d\u1ee5ng-t\u00ednh-n\u0103ng-b\u1ea5t-bi\u1ebfn-\u0111\u1ed1i-t\u01b0\u1ee3ng-c\u1ee7a-Veeam-(Veeam-object-immutability)\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"7651\">Use Veeam object immutability<\/h3>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"7727\">Another improvement to Version 10 of Veeam Backup &amp; Replication is the object immutability feature by leveraging <strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Amazon S3 Object Lock<\/strong>\u00a0in Compliance Mode.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"7894\">This is a common feature in which Veeam backups are stored in Amazon S3 using<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">\u00a0the Write-Once-Read-Many model.<\/strong>\u00a0This prevents backups from being deleted, modified, or overwritten (accidentally or intentionally), such as a ransomware attack.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"8161\">It is important to note that the Amazon S3 bucket must be activated object lock mode at the time of creating the new S3 bucket.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"AWS-Storage-Gateway:-Tape-Gateway\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"8278\">AWS Storage Gateway: Tape Gateway<\/h2>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"8313\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication version 10 also supports direct backup to\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">AWS Storage Gateway<\/strong>\u00a0in virtual tape\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">library\u00a0<\/strong>(VTL) mode. Tape Gateway presents a VTL consisting of virtual tapes and a virtual media changer for Veeam with iSCSI.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"8584\">Using\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Tape Gateway allows<\/strong>\u00a0customers to take advantage of<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">\u00a0Amazon S3 Glacier and\u00a0<\/strong>Amazon\u00a0<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">S3 Glacier Deep Archive.<\/strong>\u00a0These storage classes are only useful when backup data does not need to be recovered regularly and takes time to retrieve.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"8828\">3-5 hours typically 3-5 hours for tapes stored in S3 Glacier and typically within 12 hours for tapes stored in the S3 Glacier Deep Archive.
